18.04.2009 11.14WORLD SERIES RENAULT 2009 – BARCELONA QUALIFYING
Qualifying for the World Series Renault saw French team Tech1 Racing emerge fastest overall with French driver Charles Pic who was also fastest in his group. World Series qualifying splits the field in two groups with Pic being fastest of his group and British driver James Walker heading the times in the second group. KC racing’s Sten Pentus qualified with Pic in the first group in the MofazForterc Motorsport entry. Sten’s first qualifying of 2009 with his new team was exciting and in the end he just missed the “Super Pole” qualifying by the tiny margin of just over one tenth of a second.
While he was pleased with his lap time, the gap to “Super Pole” gives Sten extra motivation for qualifying for the next races where he will have more experience of the car and team.
Sten’s race engineer Stuart King was very pleased with the result and is looking forward to the first race of the weekend, “I was really pleased with the way qualifying went and Sten did a super job and got nearly everything possible out of the car on his qualifying lap.”
Because of the split qualifying groups Sten’s ninth fastest group time will mean he starts eighteenth ahead of former GP2 and A1GP driver Adrian Zaugg and a number of other very experienced drivers.
Super Pole qualifying for the grid positions for the top twelve cars finished with Spaniard Miguel Molina emerging fastest from Charles Pic and James Walker.
