13.06.2009 22.47Hungaroring - BLOCKED LAP RUINS PENTUS QUALIFYING
After a very encouraging first day at the Hungaroring, qualifying was a disappointment for Sten Pentus when his last two laps of qualifying on his second set of tyres were destroyed by another driver who ignored waved blue flags for two consecutive laps at this crucial time.
In the early part of qualifying with his first set of tyres, Sten was immediately on the pace with his three lap run. With his second set for a four lap run, he again improved as did a number of other drivers but just as the tyres reach their optimum temperature he caught traffic and lost the two most important laps when the tyres were at their peak. The end result was a disappointing 10th in session. The Mofazforetec team lodged a complaint with the race stewards for the blocking that had destroyed Sten’s qualifying and as a result Sten moved up one position in the group when the guilty driver had his best lap time taken away. While justice had been done with the offending driver and Sten gained a place, the bigger loss was the fact that his chance at a spot in the Super Pole run-off was lost.
As a result, with the two group times combined Sten will start race one on the ninth row in 17th position.
On a happier note team-mate Fairuz Fauzy qualified 8th in Super Pole which means with the Race 1 grid being reverse grid, Fairuz will start from pole position, also giving Mofazfortec their first pole position of the season.
