Following
yesterdays disappointment, today’s qualifying produced a great recovery from
Sten Pentus and the Fortec Motorsport team.
The
track was wet again for qualifying, and this time the strategy worked to
perfection with Sten preserving his tyres and saving his best effort for the
last two minutes when he grabbed an excellent second fastest time in session to
put him alongside Race 1 and Race 2 pole man Daniel Ricciardo.
It
was a great reward for the whole team and will give Sten a clear run to the first
corner at the start.
RACE 2
From
his starting position to the left of Ricciardo, Sten made a perfect start to
nose ahead of the Australian into the first corner and momentarily take the
lead into the first corner, only to have the P1 Motorsport car of Jan Charouz
sneak in front as they exit the corner.
Sten
was quickly into his rhythm and pressured Charouz until the Czech driver pitted
on lap five, leaving Sten in command at the front. Ricciardo was in pursuit and
Sten responded with some very quick laps making his compulsory stop for two
rear tyres on lap twelve.
Sten
emerged from the pits just in front of Charouz and had to work really hard to
bring his tyres up to temperature and immediately began to pull away and
consolidate his lead.
Sten
extended his lead all the way through the race to the last lap, taking the fastest
lap of the race in the process.
Sten
drove a perfect race, finishing 1st and crossed the line 8.7 seconds ahead of second placed
Charouz, with Red Bull junior Ricciardo a further a 3.3 seconds behind Charouz
in third place.

The
result was great reward for the entire Fortec Motorsport team and Sten for the
hard, focused work they have put in during the collective tests prior to the
start of the season.
Sten
said, “I am so happy with this result as it gives a great thank you to all
those who have supported and believed in me. Now that I have a taste of what it
is like to win at this level, I would like to experience this again.”
For
Richard Dutton and the Fortec team it marks a return to the front with the
revived Fortec Motorsport World Series team.
“I’m
really pleased for Sten, because he grew with us last year and this dominant
win totally justified our belief in him and is thoroughly deserved, because his
dedication to improve and all his hard work with Stuart King have made this
possible”, said Dutton. “It is also great to see our new WSR team come together
under Team Manager Jamie Dye.”
The
second event of the 2010 World Series calendar takes place at Spa on the
weekend of 30th April to 1st of May.
